The annual Skip Johnson Memorial Hike is set to take place on Saturday 18th April 2026, bringing together hikers of all abilities to honour a much-loved local scouting figure.
Organised by 1st Mortimer Scout Group, the event offers three scenic routes — 5, 10 and 20 miles — that all start and finish at the scout headquarters. The 5-mile route is ideal for families and newer walkers, while the 10-mile course provides a moderate challenge for regular hikers. For those seeking a demanding trek, the 20-mile option offers a full-day adventure through the beautiful Berkshire countryside.
The annual hike honours the memory of Skip Johnson, a respected scout leader whose legacy continues to inspire community spirit and outdoor adventure. Participants will enjoy waymarked paths, camaraderie and the opportunity to support a long-standing local tradition.

Phoenix to Host the WFIS Workshop 2027 in London
Phoenix Independent Scouts Association is proud to announce that we will be hosting the World Federation of Independent Scouts (WFIS) Workshop 2027, taking place at Scout Park, North London from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th September 2027.
This international workshop will bring together representatives from WFIS Scout Associations from across Europe for a weekend of learning, collaboration, and shared ideas.
Hosting the WFIS Workshop is a significant milestone for Phoenix and reflects our growing role within the global independent Scouting community. It also offers a fantastic opportunity to showcase UK independent Scouting, connect with international colleagues, and contribute meaningfully to the future direction of WFIS.
Further details about the programme, accommodation, and booking will be shared closer to the event.
For more information, please contact lindsey@phoenixscouts.co.uk.
